The Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Manitoba Provincial Council ANNUAL BULAVA AWARD Dinner honoring Ukrainian volunteer community leaders in Manitoba
The annual Bulava Award took place ion September 24, 2017 with 180 people in attendence. The Award is dedicated to the celebration and acknowledgement of Manitobans who have volunteered their time, energy and expertise to enhance our Ukrainian Canadian community in Manitoba ensuring it remains strong, vibrant and active for future generations.
In 1959 the Ukrainian community in Canada embarked on a significant undertaking – to place a monument to Taras Shevchenko, Ukraine’s national poet, on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature. $175,000 was raised for this endeavor.Two years later, on July 9, 1961, nearly 25,000 Ukrainian Canadians from across the country gathered in Winnipeg to witness Canadian Prime Minister John Difenbaker solemnly unveiled a monument to Taras Shevchenko.
Born Leonid (Hryhorijevich) Molodozhanyn on January 15, 1915 in the village of Polonne, Ukraine to a long line of family potters,* and at his father’s side and within the community, Leonid apprenticed and acquired the craft of modeling clay, using the potter’s wheel and firing clay, to create ceramics.
Breaking from tradition, Leonid decided that he wanted to study painting in Vienna, Austria.
June 15, 2017. OTTAWA. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) today announced the renewal of the UCC Parliamentary Internship Program aimed at providing Ukrainian Canadian youth with meaningful political experience. UCC is pleased that the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada (UNF) is a founding sponsor and will provide the interns training through the Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership.
A container of medical supplies sent in June of this year to Ukraine by the UCC-MPC Euromaidan Committee has safely arrived in Mariupol, a city on the front lines in Eastern Ukraine. This shipment will assist wounded and displaced victims of Russian aggression. The bulk of the medical equipment was collected and donated by International Hope Canada.

Costs for shipping the container to Ukraine were covered by a $5000 donation from the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada branch at St. Anne’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg

A very special and pleasant UCC-MPC Bulava Award 2016 banquet took place on September 26, 2016 in Winnipeg. Thanks to everyone who attended, the volunteers, and especially to this year’s Honorees, who through their work and example, have created the Ukrainian Canadian community that we all enjoy today!
Yesterday, they joined Ukrainians everywhere in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

25 years ago, the aspirations of the Ukrainian people for independence, self-determination and freedom were realized and the hopes of so many generations of brave Patriots were fulfilled. On August 24, 1991, Ukraine became an independent and indivisible democratic State.
