AID TO UKRAINE

On Saturday June 11, 2016 UCC-MPC Euromaidan Committee met its commitment of sending a container of medical equipment to Ukraine. The container was filled with mostly fully functioning modern hospital beds, which had been obtained and refurbished by International Hope Canada. The container made its way to Toronto. While in there, volunteers were able to add a number of additional high value items including 5 electronic patient lifters, 16 mattresses and a number of boxes full of medical supplies. One photograph shows how the container looked leaving Winnipeg, and then how it looked before it got sealed and sent.

UCC AND UCC-MPC MOURN PASSING OF OLEH ROMANIV

15 March 2016 – WINNIPEG. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) expresses its deep sorrow on the passing of former President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Walter Oleh Romaniw, Q.C. Mr. Romaniw served two terms as President of the UCC from 1992-1998. Mr. Romaniw passed away on March 7, 2016.

Ukrainians’ 125th Anniversary

To mark the 125 Anniversary of the settlement of Ukrainians in Canada on March 10, 2016 the Province of Manitoba proclaimed 2016 The Year of Manitoba’s Ukrainian-Canadian Cultural Heritage. At the March 10th session of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, the Premier of Manitoba Hon. Greg Selinger, read a proclamation which had the support of all parties represented in the House.

UCC-MPC STATEMENT ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEPORTATION BY JOSEPH STALIN OF THE CRIMEAN TATARS

On May 18, 2017 the world marks the 73rd anniversary of the 1944 deportation of the entire Crimean Tatar – the indigenous people of the Crimean Peninsula – population from their homeland to far-flung regions of the Soviet Union. This criminal act of ethnic cleansing was initiated on the orders of Soviet leader.

WINNIPEG YOUTH HONOUR TARAS SHEVCHENKO

On March 7th 2015, Ukrainian Canadian youth met in front of the Taras Shevchenko Monument on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building to honour the 201st Anniversary of his birth. Representatives of PLAST and Ukrainian Youth Association CYM placed a wreath at the foot of the monument and listened to short biography of Shevchenko’s life
