CONTAINER OF AID SENT TO UKRAINE

On June 3, 2017 a container of medical supplies to assist wounded and displaced victims of Russian aggression was sent to Ukraine by the UCC-MPC Euromaidan Committee. The bulk of the medical equipment was collected and donated by International Hope Canada. Costs for shipping the container to Ukraine were covered by a $5000 donation from the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada branch at St. Anne’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg

Bulava Award 2016

A very special and pleasant UCC-MPC Bulava Award 2016 banquet took place on September 26, 2016 in Winnipeg. Thanks to everyone who attended, the volunteers, and especially to this year’s Honorees, who through their work and example, have created the Ukrainian Canadian community that we all enjoy today!

Hospital supplies sent to Ukraine

UCC-MPC’s container of supplies for hospitals in Ukraine has been loaded on a train and is heading for Montreal where it will be loaded on a ship headed for Ukraine. While in Toronto, volunteers were able to add a number of additional high value items including 5 electronic patient lifters, 16 mattresses and a number of boxes full of medical supplies. One photograph shows how the container looked leaving Winnipeg, and then how it looked before it got sealed and sent.Thanks to all volunteers that helped, to our donors, to International Hope Canada, and the professional transport people who will ensure that this valuable assistance makes it Ukraine!

AID TO UKRAINE

On Saturday June 11, 2016 UCC-MPC Euromaidan Committee met its commitment of sending a container of medical equipment to Ukraine. The container was filled with mostly fully functioning modern hospital beds, which had been obtained and refurbished by International Hope Canada. The container made its way to Toronto. While in there, volunteers were able to add a number of additional high value items including 5 electronic patient lifters, 16 mattresses and a number of boxes full of medical supplies. Ukrainians’ 125th Anniversary

To mark the 125 Anniversary of the settlement of Ukrainians in Canada on March 10, 2016 the Province of Manitoba proclaimed 2016 The Year of Manitoba’s Ukrainian-Canadian Cultural Heritage. At the March 10th session of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, the Premier of Manitoba Hon. Greg Selinger, read a proclamation which had the support of all parties represented in the House.

UCC-MPC STATEMENT ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEPORTATION BY JOSEPH STALIN OF THE CRIMEAN TATARS

On May 18, 2017 the world marks the 73rd anniversary of the 1944 deportation of the entire Crimean Tatar – the indigenous people of the Crimean Peninsula – population from their homeland to far-flung regions of the Soviet Union. This criminal act of ethnic cleansing was initiated on the orders of Soviet leader.

Internment

On October 24, 2015 the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Provincial Council organized a one day symposium to mark the unjust Internment of Ukrainian Canadians and others during the First World War. This took place at the Provincial Legislature Building. Later that day, a monument honoring those interned was unveiled on the grounds of the Legislature.

UCC MPC INITIATIVES

On September 21, 2014, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Provincial Council sponsored the Official Unveiling of the Holodomor Statue: “Bitter Memories of Childhood” on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building. The statue is located near the monument to Taras Shevchenko. Dignitaries in attendance included the Lt. Gov. of Manitoba, Hon. Philip Lee, and the Premier Hon. Greg Selinger, Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak, UCC National President Paul Grod and the President of the Ukrainian World Congress Eugene Czolij.

The monument is an exact copy of the statue which is located at the entrance to the Holodomor Memorial Museum in Kyiv, Ukraine.
