UCC LAUNCHES PARLIAMENTARY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

June 15, 2017. OTTAWA. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) today announced the renewal of the UCC Parliamentary Internship Program aimed at providing Ukrainian Canadian youth with meaningful political experience. UCC is pleased that the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada (UNF) is a founding sponsor and will provide the interns training through the Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership.

CONTAINER OF MANITOBA AID ARRIVES IN MARIUPOL!

A container of medical supplies sent in June of this year to Ukraine by the UCC-MPC Euromaidan Committee has safely arrived in Mariupol, a city on the front lines in Eastern Ukraine. This shipment will assist wounded and displaced victims of Russian aggression. The bulk of the medical equipment was collected and donated by International Hope Canada.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress, its member organizations, provincial councils and local branches extend warm greetings to the Ukrainian Canadian community and all those celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence!
25 years ago, the aspirations of the Ukrainian people for independence, self-determination and freedom were realized and the hopes of so many generations of brave Patriots were fulfilled. On August 24, 1991, Ukraine became an independent and indivisible democratic State.

STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER OF CANADA ON UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence:

“Today, we join the Ukrainian community—here in Canada and around the world—to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.Canada is proud to have been the first western country to recognize Ukraine’s declaration of independence in 1991.

Due to the efforts of the Canadian Polish Congress MB District, a commemoration of Black Ribbon Day took place on 22 August 2016 at the Manitoba Legislative Building. Representatives of the Ukrainian, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Slovak and Latvian communities came together to remember the millions killed by the Soviet and Nazi regimes.

UCC AND UCC-MPC MOURN PASSING OF OLEH ROMANIV

15 March 2016 – WINNIPEG. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) expresses its deep sorrow on the passing of former President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Walter Oleh Romaniw, Q.C. Mr. Romaniw served two terms as President of the UCC from 1992-1998. Mr. Romaniw passed away on March 7, 2016.

WINNIPEG YOUTH HONOUR TARAS SHEVCHENKO

On March 7th 2015, Ukrainian Canadian youth met in front of the Taras Shevchenko Monument on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building to honour the 201st Anniversary of his birth. Representatives of PLAST and Ukrainian Youth Association CYM placed a wreath at the foot of the monument and listened to short biography of Shevchenko’s life
