Ukrainian Internment Virtual Program

Віртуальна освітня програма про інтернованих українців вийде в ефір 28 жовтня 2020 о 12:00 PM. Програму підготовлено Конгресом Українців Канади – Провінційною Радою Манітоби.

Програма приурочена 100-річчю закриття останнього табору для інтернованих українців в Канаді.

Ukrainian Internment Virtual Program – 28 October 2020

This program will go live on the UCC-MPC Youtube channel (search for Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Prov Council) on NATIONAL INTERNMENT COMMEMORATION DAY October 28, 2020 at 12:00PM noon.

The program is an educational tool on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the closure of the last Ukrainian Internment camp in Canada in 1920. The program is produced by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Provincial Council.

The program features three key speakers:

1. Inky Mark, former Member of Parliament who presented and had adopted in 2005, Bill – C331 “Internment of Persons of Ukrainian Origin Recognition Act” in the House of Commons.

2. Dr Lubomyr Luciuk – a scholar who has studied and written extensively on the Internment and

3. Writer Sandra Semchuk, author of the recently published book ” The Stories Were Not Told: Stories and Photographs from Canada’s First Internment Camps 1914-1920″.

The program includes reading of poems in English and Ukrainian by students and teachers of various schools of the English – Ukrainian Bilingual and the Ukrainian Saturday Schools in Manitoba.

Welcoming remarks are provided by Joan Lewandosky, President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Manitoba Provincial Council, and concluding remarks by Dr. Roman Yereniuk.
